I have had this ellliptical for about 10 days now. Assembly was not difficult and took about 1.5 hours. I am pleased with the quality of the materials used, and everything seems to work fine. Unfortunately, the nice color LCD display cannot cannot be read when you are on the machine. When you try to look at the display while using the trainer, you cannot read any of blue text (heart rate, calories, distance, etc.) or the yellow text (countdown timer) because the viewing angle is wrong. The text can only be read when viewed at an angle of between 30-60 degrees. When looking at the display from a 90 degree angle, all you can see are 88:88. I contacted Smooth Fitness customer service, but they have no solution. You would need to be less than 4 ft. tall to read the display in its mounted position. I find it unbelievable that they did not see this coming and design a monitor that could pivot.

Don’t buy this item, i bought one and it didn’t last but for maybe 3 or 4 use. The resistance mechanism broke thereby causing the brakes to jam in the fly wheel which cause the bike to be stuck. This is all because the resistance mechanism is made up of plastic parts. Stay away from proform machines…they are cheaply made.

This elliptical is so loud!!! I exchanged the first one that I bought for the same model thinking that I got a lemon…boy was I wrong. I’ve had the second one for 3 weeks and it just gets louder and louder. I followed the assembly directions to the letter and it still clicks and creeks. Please, spend a little more money and buy a better product!!

We’ve had ours for a few days and couldn’t be happier. It doesn’t have bells and whistles but I never used these at the health club anyway.

Here’s the strong points 1) amazingly quiet (0 decibels), 2) same ergonomics or better than health club version, 3) solid construction (same as X3), and 4) very easy to assemble.

All I can say is wow. Got a good price $1699 for it too. This deal didn’t last long (got lucky).

Just purchased this today from a fitness store (Not Amazon). Price on the floor was $1299, but they offered to take of $100 if we’d take it in the box (and put it together ourselves). Took that offer and bought it for 1200. Now I see it on Amazon for 1100. WTF!!! Going back to the store to see what they can do to adjust the price.

Now about the machine – very high quality parts and mechanical operation from what we’ve seen in our first trials this evening. Warranty is outstanding as well. Had a couple of issues with the monitor though.

First, the machine doesn’t turn on all the time. We have to remove the AC adapter plug in the machine, then plug it back in. It turns on every time when thats done. Not something we want to do every time however.

Second, the programable users are difficult to figure out and they are more geared towards setting up a user program and not just to “log into the machine”. We were expecting to set up each other as a user, jump on the machine, select your user, and pick a program and go. Thats not the case, you have to do the program that you initially defined / set up the first time you used the machine. Otherwise, if you want to use a program with your weight and age, you have to enter it in every time.

Third, the calorie burned calculations seem to be low. After running on this machine for 10 minutes with a ceiling level of 6, it said I only burned ~60 calories. Maybe this is accurate but the machines I’ve been using for the last 3 years at the gym will show that I burn over 130 calories at a similar load and time. This calculation doesn’t even seem close but maybe the gym machines are off (don’t know).

Would be very interested if any one else has noticed any of these issues.

First, I did extensive research for the right elliptical for less than $1,300. The Kettler Vito XL so far lives up to all of the positive comments I’d found on it. It’s an excellent elliptical machine that’s exceeded my expectations so far. My wife and I have each used the machine about once a day since we purchased it 3 weeks ago, and we are extremely pleased with its performance. The machine is so quiet, yet quite sturdy (no wobbling!!) and provides very useful cardio feedback and info on energy burned, mph, rpms … even room temperature! Relatively small footprint, too, since we live in a one-bedroom apartment, and not too shabby to look at, either. The stride is 16″, but for us that’s more than fine, since I’m 5′8″ tall and my wife is 5′3″ tall. The movement feels very natural, much like cross-country skiing. The upper body workout is great, too, and provides excellent stretching of the upper limbs. I had a bit of a problem with ‘frozen shoulder’, but since using the Kettler elliptical, I have almost no shoulder pain, which is a very pleasant added surprise to what is turning out to be a very wise purchase.

This specific type of apparatus was recommended by by my wife’s physical therapist in order to maintain her present level of strength which is diminished due to peripheral neuropathy. The trainer arrived in perfect shape. It required some assembly and it works well. It is heavy, so plan on some strong help if it needs to go upstairs. However, it rolls easily on a level surface in spite of it’s weight. I would rate both the product and her satisfaction level as excellent.
