FastCap is a company I’d like to ‘like’. They do make things that fill a useful niche, but every time I encounter one of their products, they aggravate me with their slipshod production. For example, I bought their 3rd Hand product, and out of 4 poles, only 3 would work. And, the things are so likely to slip, that I’ve not even tried to use them for a year or so. And, when I encountered this product… the same initial impression. First off, only one of the saw brackets would fit into the hood. After filing for a few minutes, it would slide into place. Then, during setup, one of the holddown handscrews fell apart.
On the plus side, if you can get it together, it does work. How well it will hold up in real jobsites, time will tell.
Alert- if you have an older sliding compound saw, it’s quite likely that you will have to fabricate your own attachment method, since many of those saws lack the holddown slots that FastCap relies upon for attachment. So, be prepared to ‘engineer’ a bit if you fall into that group- as I did.

I bought this recently and it works well as described. It folds in half with a tent pole type design. But it is a little difficult to fold. The only thing I think really needs improvement is the adapters that it comes with. It mounts to the saw by 2 vertical poles that slide into accessory holes on the back of the saw. Works great if the holes on your saw are the same size. They only supply adapters for some saws. I have a Ridgid saw that it works perfect on but I also have a sliding Dewalt that is way loose. They suggest buying copper pipe and making your own, but is quite a loose connection. FastCap says in the instructions that it will be okay and it probably would but why don’t they just supply a few more adapters or at least make them available to buy.

Got it for $120 and for that price it is worth it for sure. I have the Bosch 5412L and it offers plenty of room for the swing of the saw to go to it’s limits. Most of the sawdust is captured and I put a box under it to feed it into. It is easy to move around and as a bonus provides a little shade for seeing the laser better. I use this on jobs not in a workshop and it makes clean up at the end of the day a lot easier esp. after cutting a bunch of wide MDF base.

First, these sell at Home Depot for $386 and ebay for cheaper. Most commercial framers will tell you this is a must have tool. I prefer it over a Trac Fast gun. Attach wood and metal (hat channel) furring strips to concrete. Use it to attach plywood subfloor down prior to laying your hardwood floor down. Its fast, easy to use and built like a tank.

Even with the elastic strap these goggles are a little to cumbersome for on and off, then back on activity. could work well with a hard hat I don’t know. I’m usually to lazy to walk to the truck and find them anyway. Perfect goggle for someone that rarely has to wear a pair all day.

This is a great little set that contains most everything a do it yourselfer would need around the house for small projects. Quality of bits seems to be pretty good, bits are pulling their weight and not breaking during use. Case has plastic molded flaps to close it which I’m sure over time will break semi easily, but that is the only downfall I see with this set.

I have to write a review about this because of how disappointed (upset actually) I am with this item. To put it in plain simple words this is a piece of crap. Half the parts broke within the first minutes of usage: drill bits broke or wore off within minutes. Screw bits broke so easily I thought it was a joke. Totally worthless. If i could give no starts I would.

I picked up this kit for use on my boat. It’s great; I can get out one, two or three panels as I need charging; I even sometimes have one panel out while sailing, which is enough to run my autopilot. It’s very good. The charge controller I got works well, too.
HOWEVER, one of the panels I was sent arrived broken. It took me eight weeks of back and forth with ICP solar to get that one panel replaced. What a pain!

A backlit easy to read display screen is fantastic. The CP9410 will show the numerical code and indicators on the screen points to the urgency level of the trouble code stored in the vehicle’s computer. Can’t get any simpler to read than that. The owner’s manual has a list of trouble codes or you can simply look it up online.
* Red: Immediate repair must be done to prevent further damage
* Orange: Get to a repair shop within two days to avoid further damage
* Yellow: Repair within a few days (five days maximum)
* Green: No trouble codes present
The optional battery feature allows user to retain & review the information even if not connected to vehicle. If no batteries are installed, the unit does still work from the battery power on your vehicle, information is not saved unless you put 4 AAA batteries into the back of the unit.

Used it to check the code for a 2004 Honda Civic check-engine light. Nice to know what the error is before you take it into a shop, so you know to expect a large or small bill, or if it’s something you can do yourself. Code index that the unit comes with may not provide all the details you need for your specific car, however. It’s best to be used with the complete code index with a service manual.

This is one nice tool box. You can spend a lot more and think you will get something better, but I don’t think you can beat the quality, good looks and function of this tool box. Looking at it from the outside you can see that it’s a good looking addition to your pickup, but when you look inside you gain a greater appreciation for the exceptional quality, heavy duty construction and workmanship associated with this product. DeWalt has long been associated with quality tools and this tool box falls in line with that expectation. The lock/handle is solid and isn’t one of those handles you have to worry about coming off in your hand. And the interior connection system is built tough so it won’t spring and eaisly bend. The side lifts keep the lid open when you want the lid opened and you can feel the resistance as you close it. The weather seal is strong, tight and complete. There aren’t any gaps that will allow dust and water to get in. The tool box installs easily and has lots of interior room for hand tools, power tools and just about anything elese you want to protect and safeguard. I like mine and recommend it to anyone. Things I liked most are the ease of installation, quality construction, nice profile, and the weather seal capability.

When given the opportunity to do a very close A/B comparison between two similar products, I like to jump at the opportunity. I decided to compare the dewalt dcs70 and the uws tbs-69 against each other due to their similarity and ordered one of each. I figured a good a/b comparison would be what people would like to know. I was wrong thinking this was an a/b comparison though.
Revision & Note: Thule phone call was not completely accurate – the lid profile on the dewalt is about an inch higher than the version Thule sells. We noticed this after both were in service trucks because some drivers complained about the dewalt blocking their window view. The photo doesn’t show this detail well but there is a small difference. Some drivers didn’t notice so it’s pretty minor.
Since the dewalt dcs70 lacked the 1/2″ VSR drill mentioned in the product description, unfortunately my Apples to Oranges comparison turned out to be an Apples to Apples comparison after a little research. Continue to History below.
(The History)
Dewalt does not “make” truck toolboxes, but instead contracts this out to a company named Thule (silent h – pronounced tool). UWS and Thule are the same company due to an acquisition in 9-2007 when Thule bought UWS, so both boxes are made by the same company. Judging by the welding skill, burns, splatter, and marks, I’d go so far as to say they were made by the same person.
The dewalt product did not include the 1/2″ VSR Drill, which I’ll admit seemed a strange combination (buy a truck toolbox, get a drill), so it put the comparison on very level footing.
Making some phone calls to Thule (UWS) I found out that they proudly manufacture the box for Dewalt. They were very helpful to explain that the dcs70 and tbs-69 are the exact same product, which once they arrived on my shipping dock, I discovered was true (except for the nameplate in front)
These two boxes are both made from .063 Aluminium diamondplate, welded. I’ll admit Al is not the easiest material to weld, but there was no effort made to clean up the splatter and burn marks on the welding which even I do when welding and I’m by no means “neat” or obcessive about it.
Thule does make a “BETTER” grade box out of .080 Al that weighs 30 lbs more and has a 4 corner locking system plus a “tough coat” tub and lid liner. It’s not sold through Amazon though. This box is UWS’s entry level box basically.
(The boxes)
Unpacking the boxes didn’t take much – the packing left quite a bit to be desired and did not provide adequate protection to the product – no styrofoam corners, just 2 half sized boxes that nest inside each other with the toolbox inside, and 5-6 straps of clear shipping tape on 3 sides holding it all together. Keep in mind it’s almost the size of a coffin. I noted some shipping damage, but then again my 2 boxes spent the last week in a fedex ground truck going cross country to my lab in California. I guess it’s not as painful when the FEDEX driver dings up your new toy for the first time.
Both boxes are bright and shiny other than their unpolished welds outside which was disappointing. The inside welds are worse. The two boxes did have slightly different keys which was a pleasant surprise, however the lock system offers less than a few seconds deterrent to a determined theif. Keeping in mind how many $ worth of tools could be inside one of these, I’d prefer a high security lock / key. I STRONGLY recommend you purchase a high security lock/shackle that you can weld to the box and lid to keep people out.
(The A/B comparison)
Well, They are the same box, both drop shipped from UWD, with the same accessories inside (a sliding black plastic parts tray). The Dewalt version carries a lifetime warantee and their logo, while Thule/UWS offers a 1 year warantee. Realistically if a weld failed 5 years from now, are you going to remove the box from your truck and ship it by truck freight back to dewalt or get your GTAW welder and fix the leak yourself?
The prices of the same box are within a dollar of each other right now, and they weigh within a lb of each other. It’s the same box with different nameplates. I liked the simplicity of the Dewalt installation instructions better, but the UWS seemed to be more of a mechanical engineering drawing showing how to bolt the box in your truck and looked more professional than the dewalt “you’ll need these items, drill, bolts, …”
Other than that, these are the same unit. You could consider the heavy duty (.080″) version from Thule but that’s the only real other option.
I’ll take some photos of the welds so you can see how they look. Both brands are the same. I am deducting 1 point for inadequate packaging and shipping damage and 1 point for weld quality and locking system. Other than those issues they are nice shiny identical boxes that would look good on any new truck.
“Almost Great” 2009-09-24

The DeWalt DCS70 Single Lid Contractor saddle box seems to be of a decent built. The welds are a little rough, not much thought seems to have been put into cleaning up the weld areas. The box itself seems fairly sturdy, though it has the type of lock and latch system that can be easily defeated by a halfway competent pry-bar user. The box’s construction characteristics make me wonder if the tool box was manufactured by UWS, and sure enough with a little research, it seems both are owned by the same parent company. upon opening the latch, the gas assisted struts take over and help open the lid and keep it open. It mounted on my truck with two J-bolts, one on each side, which I question the sturdiness of this type of mounting procedure, but will give it a try for a while to see how it holds up. The box came with a plastic 3-compartment top tray, which seems to fit a little tightly, so I doubt it’ll be sliding around from side to side while traversing rough terrain.
The tool box came shipped to me in a shoddily taped together and well beaten-up cardboard surround, that was practically falling off the tool box. The toolbox also had two nasty dents in the lid. For a product of this price, more care should be taken in properly packaging and shipping them, to avoid this type of damage. I am very disappointed that the box came damaged, however since the dents are purely cosmetic and do not affect functionality, I chose to keep it, as opposed to the hassle of trying to exchange for one that may end up coming back to me in even worse condition. Had the box arrived undamaged, in better packaging, and with better quality lock and latch hardware, I would have rated it a 5-star box.

Had this hooked up to a 70watt panel which has a max output of 4 amps. Most of the time it only kicks out about 3 amps. Was checking output the other day and noticed a soft spot on the plastic housing. I don’t think this can be used for anything but the Lame Coleman panels. Wouldn’t recommend this to ANYONE!

I have 3 large shrubs, plus a hedge. We get a lot of rain up here, which makes them all grow faster then normal. For years I have had to cut these with a pair of hedge shears, and for years, its always been a hassle. Whats even worse, is when my hedge shears start to dull up, then they don’t want to cut worth a darn. Thats when I find myself trying to use them karate style and looking like a complete idiot.
OPERATING: In old electric power equipment, while operating, the electric cord would get yanked out of the machine, all the time! But, since the year 2000, electric power equipment usually include a cord grabber, which keeps that from happening. I find that the blade is actually pretty sharp, sharper then my hedge shears for sure. lol
SHRUBS: When hedge trimming, what you want to do, is keep a good fluid, and even motion. For example, while cutting my shrubs, I like them to be round shaped. So, I like to go slowly, and let the trimmer do the work. I find that it cuts really well, and leaves a very clean and even cut. I was pretty happy with how my shrubs turned out, and never needed more power for the job at hand.
HEDGE: Hedges are the reason why hedge trimmers were made. Hedges are usually long, and require a lot of trimming to get them to look nice. I am sure you have passed by a business and said to yourself, “Oh, I wish my hedges looked that nice.” The truth is, they can be, if you use a hedge trimmer. Never expect them to look nice, when cut with a hedge shear. I like to trim my hedges in the standard square shape, and I like them to be even.
Just like with the shrubs, I like to go nice and slow, to let the machine do the work. With hedges, I like to use a vertical sweeping motion, upwards and downwards. I find that this trimmer, cuts fine and even, just like with the shrubs. Though I don’t need to, you can use pieces of string, to create a straight line to trim along. On the top of my hedge, I use a horizontal sweeping motion, moving slowly just like before. And just like before, it cuts finely and evenly, as long as I maintain my fluid motion.
DURABILITY: I find that the trimmer overall is pretty durable. The plastic handles, guard, and cord grabber, are made strong. And the switch and trigger are also made well. I don’t feel that any of these parts are flimsy at all. The motor appears to be made strong, judging by the fact of how heavy the motor weighs. Like I said, B&D makes good power equipment. The blade however, does not feel to be commercial quality. The blade can, and will flex sometimes, so its highly important that you don’t force it to do a job, it was not intended for.
CONCLUSION: I felt that this electric hedge trimmer by Black & Decker was quite good. I am a fan of their products and the implements they come up with. I felt the motor had plenty of power to get the job done, and I am happy with the length of the blade. Just remember, its for home use only, not to landscape somebody’s 4 foot wide by 100 foot long hedge.

My house sits on 0.2 acres in a suburban development. We have many types of bushes. It does a great job of trimming small branches and new growth. It will not trim anything thick or dense. For occasional light use it is perfect. If you have a lot of trimming to do regularly on thick growth then get something more powerful.

I ordered this hedge trimmer & it arrived in a broken box. Nothing was broken but it worried me. I have used it & it’s blade is sharp & the length makes it easy to use. It has plenty of power. My only concern is that I would have hoped that it came with a plastic blade covering for storage.

The Black & Decker hedge trimmer really does the job. Simple to assemble, I first tested the trimmer after it arrived, since the box was damaged by the shipper. But no problems with the trimmer at all. It cuts easily, has enough power for thicker branches and the over all weight is managable. I bought it for its price and Black & Decker’s reliabilty and would highly recommend to anyone looking for an inexpensive trimmer. I can’t wait for my hedges to grow out again so I can use this trimmer again!
